The recurring "shadow" represents burdens cast over human life by issues such as injustice, poverty, corruption, neglect, hypocrisy, misplaced priorities and misuse of power. Yet the collection does not stop at condemnation — it questions, warns, challenges, remembers, and calls readers toward reflection and the possibility of light.
